Religious Education
Our class has been studying the fruits and the gifts of the Holy Spirit and reading various Gospels that refer to each. We did this in preparation for the third sacrament of initiation; where we renew our baptismal promises and tell God that we are willing to follow in his example. On the 14th and the 15th of September we received confirmation at the venue of Holy Rosary parish. It was an exciting moment in life and certainly one that we will treasure for days to come. We had the opportunity to reflect on our sins and realized that the Holy Spirit can help us with the gifts that we need help with.
Maths
In maths we have been learning about shapes and geometry. We have enjoyed using our protractors properly and finding the angles of triangles and squares. We have been using the Mathletics Concept Search and other online maths tools to help us with maths concepts that we don’t quite understand. For homework we also are given mathletics tasks, live mathletics and New Wave Mental Maths.
English
In English, the year 6 class have been designing brochures on our amazing school in time for Open Day. We included hand-drawn pictures, and linked videos to them. We used Aurasma in order to make our pictures translate to reality. This gave us the ability to inform people more about our school.
In English, we have also completed paragraphs on our time at this school. For most of us, our learning journey began in kindy, and it was really exciting to look back at the highlights of each year and the wonderful memories that we’ve shared.

Geography
In Geography we have been learning about the contributions that have been made by migrants in Australia. Migrants have given us languages, food, jobs and new ideas. We looked at some examples and discussed whose family are migrants. We have been looking at different countries and what they have contributed to our country. We have looked at where Australia mainly imports from and exports to. We have also researched the importance on having good relationships with close surrounding countries.
science
Our current topic in science is called Change Detectives. We have been learning about solids, liquids and gases changing their states of matter. The states of matter change when the particles move differently. This is because of heat. The more freedom they have to move around changes their appearance. We have recently completed a science experiment in pairs where we had to find a way to melt an ice block fastest. We had a variable in our experiment to see which way is more affective to melt the ice block. We planned our experiment prior to doing the experiment. We used the correct format and included tables and photos with our recordings.
Art
In Art lessons, we have been doing artwork in the style of Walala Tjapaltjarri, using our natural habitat and history as inspiration for our artwork. We have been looking at how he does his paintings and where he is from. We have started to create drafts for our own paintings using some of his colours and patterns for inspiration. Last term we also created self portraits based on Vincent Van Gogh paintings. We also made pictures of our favourite Perth icon. We got our inspiration from Ken Done's artwork on Sydney icons.
Sport
In sport we have been learning AFL skills on Wednesday and will be doing Netball on Thursday. Our sports teacher has been teaching us how to handball and kick properly and once we have been practicing for a while, we will start and AFL tournament. We have been having a little competitions against each other like who can kick the football the longest. We also had a fun mini soccer tournament with many close games and world class goals!
History
In history we have been digging up history on federation so we can learn about Australia’s past before our class camp to Canberra. We found it interesting to hear about how our government hadn't even formed back then and about the long process it took to make Australia the country it is today. We also learnt about the women's suffrage and about how women got the right to vote. We learnt about powerful figures such as Edith Cowan and Joan Child who made it fair for women in Australia.
We made posters on SMORE about the Magna Carta, one of the most important Medieval English documents. It was made by the barons to King John so he would govern England and treat everyone accordingly. We also have been learning about the Australian Gold rush. We read historical documents and newspapers on TROVE to see if Edward Hargraves was the first person to find gold in Australia.
Novel studies
In Term Three in Novel Studies we have been reading a science fiction book titled Space Demons by Gillian Rubinstein. Space demons is about Andrew, Ben, Mario and Elaine, they are four students in year 6 who all are very different but also similar in many ways. They get sucked into the game space demons, a prototype from Tokyo that Andrew's dad gave to him. The game takes over their lives and makes things very difficult for them. We have been answering questions on space demons by chapters and have been adding information as we read to character profiles about the four main characters.
